How it all began…
Excuse My Grandma was created in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Kim Murstein moved from New York City to live with her grandparents in Palm Beach, Florida.
As Kim navigated the modern dating world — swiping on apps, deciphering ambiguous texts, and going on many dates — Grandma Gail never held back her opinions, offering unfiltered, old-school dating advice.
What began as lighthearted, often comedic conversations between a granddaughter and her grandmother soon revealed a more profound intergenerational contrast in dating expectations, relationship values, and cultural norms.
Recognizing the humor and relatability of their exchanges, Kim began recording their discussions, launching what would become Excuse My Grandma.
Kim’s background as a TV news producer and reporter allowed their project to take off quickly. Excuse My Grandma soon started to resonate with audiences who saw their family dynamics and dating dilemmas reflected in Kim and Gail’s banter.
As their following grew, Excuse My Grandma evolved from a passion project into a full-fledged media brand, expanding into digital content, brand collaborations, live events, and publishing.
Their popular podcast expanded from conversations between Kim and Gail to bringing on special guests. Excuse My Grandma has interviewed Bobbi Brown, Lindsey Metselaar, Julia Haart, Nick Viaal, Harry Jowsey, Anna Kai, and many more.
With millions of views each month and a rapidly expanding presence across media platforms, Excuse My Grandma has become a cultural phenomenon, proving that while dating norms may change, the search for love (and a grandma’s tough love advice) remains timeless.
